ARC reviewing question

Got an ARC from netgalley, and seeing as I don't have a book blog I don't get all the requests. Obviously.

I gave this book a good review and rating and the author actually messaged me asking to put it on amazon. But I don't want to put ratings on amazon. I'm not even buying books from there any longer. They have approved exactly one of my previous reviews there so I just stopped trying.

Any thoughts?

ARC Review: Asher's Fault by Elizabeth Wheeler

Asher's Fault - Elizabeth Wheeler

This is a very moving book, it is beautifully written but I do not know what it's really about. The blurb is somewhat misleading.

Is it about Asher being let known that it is not his fault, because it truly isn't. Is it about him learning the secret that split his family apart? Is it about letting your faith helping you heal? Is it about a boy learning his true path? Being gay, finding out who your real friends are?

It is about all those things, and yet not, there is not one of these things that has a proper focus. We don't get to learn anything in the end about where they're all going.

It is most definitely a book I'd recommend. It invoked many emotions, but I would have liked some proper focus on a few issues.

ARC Review: Have Wormhole, Will Travel by Tony McFadden

Have Wormhole, Will Travel - Tony McFadden

What made me notice this book at first glance was the title, reading the blurb gave me no choice but to request it.

This is a really funny book, only trouble is, I don't know if it's supposed to be.

The girls and their vampire club running around Sidney stalking two very specific men.

Sam the scientist that is literally walking around calling everyone stupid.

And then the two vampires/aliens/time travelers that cannot lie worth shit.

For someone that knows nothing about physics the science sounds more than believable, but at times also something like out of a parody. (Think jam pouring out of the screens ala Spaceballs.)

It is very well written, the language is easy and understandable despite techno babble, and at no points did I go, "people do not speak like that." I have a tendency to do that a lot.

So Mr McFadden, is Callum running around Sydney without a thumb? I couldn't quite figure that out.

Champion (Legend #3) by Marie Lu

Champion: A Legend Novel - Marie Lu

This had me on the edge of my seat reading it. It was at times very stressful. And I am not afraid to admit it, it also had me bawling.

I love June and Day, it was so nice to get to see some real tender moments between them.

It was also a treat to get to see more of Eden.

As much as I love the whole of the book, and I can see why Lu made the decision about Day, if you're going to do a jump that large, please give us more than those last three pages. It was a real disappointment to be honest, and it had me going from a solid 5 to a grudging 4.

Also can never forgive the repeated use of Tess's, even my autocorrect knows that's wrong.

I leave you with this swoon worthy moment between Day and June.

"You're the scariest, most clever, bravest person I know, and sometimes I can't catch my breath because I'm trying so hard to keep up. There will never be another like you. You realize that, don't you?"

"Billions of people will come and go in this world, but there will never be another like you."

So Authors...

What's up with the whole giving other authors 5 stars just because you have the same publisher?

I'm pretty sure you don't like all those books, cause well some do suck.

I have author friends, that I actually know, don't mean I'm gonna give em 5 stars, or even 4.

Shiver (Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater

I like werewolves, sadly I am not that sold on the mythology in this series.

I did truly enjoy reading it though, I couldn't really put it down, I just wanted to know what happened next.

Both Sam and Grace were easy to like. And you were very invested in their relationship, as much as the book is about werewolves, it's more about Sam and Grace and it's handled so well, and it's such an easy relationship you can't help but to like it.

They both have to deal with a lot of sadness, but it's not overwhelming to read and it's dealt with in a very true way.

The language it's written in is captivating, it's like a melody that just flows.

Collide (Blackcreek series #1) by Riley Hart

Collide (Blackcreek Series) - Riley Hart

Sloppy editing and missing quotation marks.

It was an emotional read, I liked both Cooper and Noah very much, it's usually something with at least one of the characters that bugs me, but not with these boys.

Side characters was a treat too and you could feel the setup for Braden and Wes' book to come.

As always gay for you is a bit far fetched for me, but Coop's thoughts was handled very well so as a reader I had more of an understanding for the situation.

Heartless by Keith Allen

Heartless: A Richard Rogan Novel - Keith Allen

I won this in a giveaway right here on booklikes.

A good rating and review was not promised in return.

The plot in this one was intriguing. I did expect more paranormal in it than it was though. Richard Rogan is after all a P.I, Paranormal Investigator that is.

Towards the end I felt that the language changed a bit, it got more stilted, more proper. Instead of using 've the words were all of a sudden spoken in full.

Sadly I recognized the murderer as soon as the person was introduced. Although I was doubting myself for about 2 pages there at the end. Just turned out I was right, but a twist.

Shock & Awe (Sidewinder #1) by Abigail Roux

Shock & Awe - Abigail Roux

Roux is back with the first novella in the Sidewinder series that focuses on Ty Grady's special forces team, Sidewinders.

This as Ty and Zane's Cut and Run series was M/M, I'm curious though how she's going to continue this, has every person in the team been living in the closet for the last 20 years? I am intrigued to see if it's stories of them all falling in love.

Anyway...

Tears... so many tears. Happy tears, laughing tears, sad, so sad tears. I am emotionally exhausted and it was only 90ish pages.

It was nice coming into this already knowing the boys from the Cut & Run series.
I find the gay for you, how have I never noticed this after 20 years of friendship thing to be a bit silly. But Roux knows her stuff so it's not really something that stands out while reading it.

Cut and Run series by Abigail Roux

I was looking into how much it would cost me to buy them all in paperback.

And mid through the series it's another publisher.

Anyone know why?

I just have a curious.

I don't like it

I'm really not liking this 'show entire post thing'.

It cuts off the bookcover in reviews and we don't see the tags... and just... no.

Buried Bones (Bones #2) by Kim Fielding

Buried Bones - Kim Fielding

It's hard to follow up a great book, it's hard to make it as interesting and keep the characters on the same level. But not for Fielding.

Dylan and Chris has grown in their relationship, it's not without difficulties. It's hard for them both to define what they are and what they want, but it's an easy decision to make when it comes down to it. Which for me as a reader is very happy about.

Dylan is a werewolf, hello something should be natural in this book and their love is that for me.

There's new challenges in this one, there's a freaking ghost in the house, like a full fledged they can see it ghost. Like communicating y'all.

This as the previous book is now on my, I want to own this in print list.

Good Bones (Bones #1) by Kim Fielding

Good Bones - Kim Fielding

This is everything I could wish for in a book.

Loveable boys, and great side characters.

Dylan and Chris both change some of their ways, but it's not hurried or forced, it's a natural thing, the way love should be.

There's just enough drama and angst to make it really good.

There was perma grins, giggles and tears reading this. And it is now on my, I want to own this in printed copy list.

ARC Review: Mindscape by Tal Valante

Mindscape - Tal Valante

I received this free via NetGalley for an honest review.

The blurb gives you a false picture of what it is you get. Sure the information is accurate, but you don't quite get the emotion and the scenes you are expecting.

It is written in present tense and flashbacks, which at moments gave you some confusion. There was no indication that they were now entering a flashback. At some points there wasn't even paragraph jumps. I don't know if that has anything to do with the formatting for the ebook.

It could have been a cute story, following the boys falling in love, but there was not enough scenes and it was too scattered to get a proper feel for their relationship.

It's also a very serious and heart breaking thing the boys have gone through, but we get no scenes or real feel for what it is they have been through.

It is in the end lacking in many forms, it needed more. More development of characters. More scenes with the boys falling in love. And maybe even some scenes while separated.

(Note that this is an advanced readers copy, and changes could have been made. Publishing date is December 23rd.)
